Dear Fellow Sportsmen and Women:
As you have read in the news release from Jack, I have accepted the position of Communications Director for The Indiana Beagler’s Alliance. It is with some trepidation I accepted this responsibility. Having worked behind the scene for some time now, I felt it was time to step forward and accept the challenge. It is for us all to step forward and help support our sporting heritage. I challenge all of you, to take your own personal challenges and step forward. It is imperative that we unite and defend our interests, for if we do not, we will surely loose them. We need to share information and act with speed and clarity. The new challenges we face, are emotional and disturbing, to each of us. I urge you to act with honesty and above all intelligently on the issues the Alliance is supporting. We face in some instances direct attacks on our sports. Yet others are well meaning and misdirected. Then there are the profiteers that intend on nothing more than making money and controlling all our activities as outdoor persons. Which of these are the most threatening? None are more than the other. Each will eventually bring the same end result. With out each of us reaching out to defend, educate and edify the non-sporting public and our fellow sportsmen and women on the issues, no one will make good and proper decisions.
Honest, polite and intelligent rebuttal is impetrative, to our cause. I would ask, each of you to consider your position and evaluate where you stand and how you would respond to each and every issue. I am proud to be a part of such a movement in our arena. I would trust that each of you will do all that you can to help. By passing on information, attending meetings with the D.N.R. and passing on information from the Alliance to all you know. To all you encounter and anyone you may meet. This will further our cause immeasurably. Communication is paramount to our issues.
On a personal note, you may want to know a bit about me. I am almost 60 years old and have dabbled in dogs most of my life. Having raised Britnies, Beagles and trained many a stubborn old coon hound. I love dogs and being around them. I most enjoy the sight of each dog growing and becoming a true hunting companion. Am I good at it? Nope! But I sure do enjoy it! Mater of fact there are some around that will say I am just plain bad at it. Well they may be right but I do have fun. After a day of running dogs they just might wind up on the front seat right beside me, muddy coat, feet and all. Head on my lap snoring softly as we head home. The Game bag may be empty and my body hurt. But hunting we did go. As the years take there toll on my body. (I am disabled now) I depend more and more on my hunting buddies and dogs to keep me going. I want to give to our children and our grand children the same sporting opportunities as were handed down to me by My Grand Parents and Parents. The only way to do that is to help.
